WEST LOCH MODULAR
TRANSITIONAL HOUSING

site-scale green infrastructure

Project Location: Ewa, Oahu, Hawaii

Typology: Housing, Institutional, Xeriscape

The 2.815 acre site in the Ewa Beach area south of Asing Community Park is bounded by Fort Weaver Road to the west, Renton Road to the east, and the West Loch Elderly Village complex to the south.  Current access to the site is from Renton Road, which is also the access and parking lot for Asing Community Park.

The transitional housing facility consists of 71 units, 24 of which will be 1-bedroom units and 47 will be studio units including 20 parking stalls.

The landscape design incorporates many native plants adapted to the hot Ewa Plains region. Three swales collect stormwater run off from the site and from roof downspouts. The swale mimics a native Hawaiian intermittent riparian system with an overflow outlet collected by the municipal stormwater system.
