We need a harmonious relationship with the natural world. Our long term survival as a species depends on it.
The “Ki” to creating this intelligent and harmonious relationship is through ‘great design’. It is to protect, restore, and enhance nature’s regenerative capacity to support thriving living systems for present and future generations. The Ki is to draw people outdoors into memorable, meaningful experiences, capturing the unique spirit of the `aina and its people, linking nature and culture, building bridges to our collective past, present, and future.
We are a diverse, innovative, and passionate team of landscape architects, site planners, designers, arborists and horticulturists fully committed to ‘great design‘. Ki Concepts was established in 2007 through the internal purchase of Hawaii Design Associates, originally founded in 1973. This ownership transition spurred the restructuring, re-purposing, and regeneration of our vision, mission, and design philosophy. The concept of “Ki” is embodied in the qualities of balance, harmony, innovation, and deep appreciation for the spirit of place which we strive to infuse into our work and relationships.
We provide landscape architecture, urban planning & design, project management, and personalized post-construction landscape management services for a wide range of projects throughout the state of Hawai`i and the Pacific Basin. Committed to our `aina and community, Ki Concepts integrates low impact, sustainable design strategies and practices that enhance natural systems, fulfill community needs, and celebrate Hawaii’s unique sense of place.
Many on our team are experienced LEED accredited professionals and environmental awareness and preservation has been our core mission long before the recent “green & sustainable” trends. ‘Great design‘ is sustainable, practical, resource and cost efficient. We routinely incorporate these design principles in all our projects, not only those that require LEED or other green certifications.
Ki Concepts operates from two locations, a main office in Honolulu, O`ahu, and a satellite office in Honomu on the Island of Hawai`i. We are led by two principals with over 60 years of combined experience. We have a proven track record of meeting project schedules and budgets. Having worked extensively with diverse communities, county, state and federal agencies, as well as the private sector, our team possesses the creativity, technical knowledge, skills and experience to successfully deliver on a range of project types, including community planning, private estates, educational and institutional facilities, recreational parks, and transportation infrastructure.
